    Attackers in Plateau

The Headquarters Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation ENDURING PEACE has dismissed as false and misleading a viral comment by a youth leader from Angwan Rukuba Community, alleging that troops provided cover for perpetrators of the recent Palm Sunday attack in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement, the JTF said although it would ordinarily refrain from responding in a moment of grief, it found it necessary to clarify the situation to prevent misinformation and reassure the public.
The task force stated unequivocally that at no time did troops provide any form of support or cover to the attackers responsible for the incident, which claimed the lives of innocent civilians. It explained that upon receiving a distress call, troops were immediately mobilised to the scene, which was located a considerable distance from their deployment point.
According to the JTF, by the time troops arrived, the attackers had already fled. It added that personnel acted promptly and professionally to prevent further escalation of violence and went in pursuit of the fleeing suspects—an action reportedly corroborated by survivors and eyewitnesses.
The statement further revealed that four gun trucks were deployed to the scene and that the conduct of troops was confirmed as professional by other security agencies present, as well as witnesses.
Following the allegation, the military said a prompt investigation was conducted, which found the claims to be unfounded.
Describing the viral comment as unfortunate, the JTF warned that such misinformation could demoralise troops and strain relations between the military and host communities.
The task force urged the public to disregard the claim, remain calm and law-abiding, and continue to support security agencies with credible intelligence. It also assured that efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with other security agencies, to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The JTF reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and decisively dealing with criminal elements across Plateau State.
