Landlord Arrests All Tenants Over Missing Plantain In Akwa Ibom

Information reaching Ibom Focus says that Landlord Arrests All Tenants Over Missing Plantain In Akwa Ibom

Five students of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) in Akwa Ibom state were arrested after their landlord accused them of harvesting his plantain.

The students, all tenants at the man’s property in the capital Uyo, regained their freedom hours after they were reportedly seized by police officers on Tuesday 29 March.

Mr Saviour Udoh, a member of a foremost humanitarian club, Rotary Club International, said he is standing as a surety for the accused persons.

In a chat Wednesday with our correspondent, Mr Udoh said he and the students would appear on 5 April 2022 at the police station where the matter would be sorted out with the landlord.

The students have denied any wrongdoing. And the plantain is said to have been planted at an open place where passers-by can easily get their hands on it.

We also gathered it is not the first time plantain have been missing apparently giving an insight why the landlord – who doesn’t live in the property located at Ikpa lane – is involving the police this time around.

The incident was brought to social media by one Oga Yenne on Facebook, who asked for people to intervene.

Mr Udoh, the rotarian, later gave the update on his Facebook page, writing: “I’ve succeeded in securing BAIL as thier SURETY for the five (5) students of the University of Uyo who were arrested earlier this morning by thier landlord. “I want to specially thank the Dean students affairs, University of Uyo for his swift response, the SUG president & vice for thier support, presence and solicitations too.”
