Information reaching Ibom Focus says that Kano NNPP Chairman Welcomes Kwankwaso, warns ‘No Automatic Tickets’
The Kano chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has expressed delight over growing interest in the party, saying the party is ready to accommodate all and sundry but will not guarantee automatic tickets.
The chairman of the party in Kano, Hisham Habib, in a statement on Wednesday said the party will work with ‘incoming partners’ in achieving its objectives.
Reacting to the news of the defection of a former Kano governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the party, Mr Habib said the party could not guarantee automatic tickets to the incoming members, but that all card carrying members can contest for positions as stipulated in the party’s constitution.
“We express our optimistic vision for a better Kano and Nigeria where citizens will be given equal opportunities,” Mr Habib said.
He added Kano state leadership of the party expects the national headquarters under the leadership of Dr Boniface Aniebonam to formalize all mergers and or alliances with groups coming into the party.
The state party also wishes to thank the party leadership from the zonal level to the national level for its efforts in promoting the party.
The outgoing National Secretary of NNPP, Agbo Gilbert Major, on Tuesday disclosed Mr Kwankwaso’s plan to join the party.
“Nigerians are getting set for the general election and we are meeting to reposition the party, and the frontiers are opening. A lot of Nigerians are coming in and there is need for us to adjust and accommodate the interests that are coming in.
“These are the very crucial decisions that we are about to take and it is going to midwife a national convention which will hold within the next 30 days. We have read Nigerians speculating, the only thing I can tell you is that we are in deep talks with Kwankwaso, in fact we have almost concluded, in the next few days, we will be reverting to Nigerians to tell them what understanding we have had with him (Kwankwaso), but I can assure you that he is on his way into NNPP,” Mr Major said.
