Nigerian tweeps have expressed their displeasure at the recent appointment of Umar Abdullahi Umar as the new Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Agency.

Umar is the son of former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Ganduje is the current National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umar’s appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement signed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, after the suspension of Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, alongside three executive directors of the agency, from office.

Some Nigerians on social media have expressed the view that Umar’s appointment was a political compensation from the President to Ganduje’s family.

For instance, an X user, @DatIgalaGuy, wrote: “Children of Family and Friends. We have served the fathers, and will now be serving the children. No. 3 Ganduje’s son No. 5 Pius Akinyelure’s son.”

Sunny Angel said he was not shocked by Umar’s appointment.

Angel said, “Is anyone surprised? If you are, you’re probably not in tune with the political calculations of rogues in government.

“It is a pattern. That’s why people can defend the devil just because of what they stand to benefit individually.

“He’s sleeping late at night because he’s thinking about who’s left, and where’s left, to be filled in the compensation junk.”

Another X user, Jimmy Lookman, wrote: “This govt of padi padi will take us nowhere, i pity people who believe that this man offer anything.”

Shura Braugtigam said, “When you should seek a sincere and competent fellow who is already in the field, you want to compensate his father and the party. Playing politics with intricate issues. How on earth can he do the job well? Just want to waste our money through one family. This is Nigeria.”

Isah Muaz blamed President Tinubu for deciding to favour his political circle at the expense of the country’s interest.

He said: “Tinubu has turn the ministry of power a graveyard, the people in the ministry don’t exist, they are all deaf and dumb including the minister himself. They only go to office for coffee and AC, yet tinubu appoint another flunky Ganduje’s son as executive director, technical services REA. What does Ganduje’s son have to offer fgs.”

It was reported on February that Tinubu had approved the appointment of his son-in-law, Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).

Ojo is a former member of the House of Representatives and is married to Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja of Lagos.

He represented Ekiti West, Ijero and Efon federal constituency at the House of Representatives.
