Fire Burns Down Over 300 Shops In Kano Phone Market
Panic in Kano on Friday as Over 300 shops were destroyed following a fire outbreak at the popular mobile phone market.
The chairman of the market, Jamilu Gama, who confirmed the incident, said the fire lasted for about six to seven hours before it was brought under control.
He stated that the worst-hit section of the market was the area where mobile phones and accessories are sold.
“There was a huge loss of property and assets. In a single shop, you could find items worth N500million, and in some cases, up to N1 billion — all completely burnt,” he said.
Gama estimated that the total value of goods lost in the inferno could be as high as billions of naira.
He added that as of the time of the interview, the cause of the fire was still unknown.
