FG Announces ₦50,000 Grant for MTN Users: How to Apply

MTN subscribers can now check their eligibility for the Federal Government’s ₦50,000 monthly relief programme and accept the support through the MoMo Payment Service Bank (PSB) USSD code.

The National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) is designed to provide financial assistance to vulnerable Nigerian households to cushion the effects of rising living costs.
According to the programme’s official portal, eligible beneficiaries are selected through verified National Identity records and the National Social Register. They are contacted through approved payment providers, including MoMo PSB, ALAT by Wema, NairaGram, OPay and Moniepoint.
For MTN subscribers, MoMo PSB is the designated payment provider.
To check their eligibility, MTN users can dial 6710# using their registered phone numbers and follow the instructions displayed on their screens.
Subscribers who receive official notifications confirming their selection are expected to give consent before the money is credited to their mobile wallets.
Beneficiaries without a MoMo account can register by dialling *671# or downloading the official MoMo NG application.
However, MTN Nigeria has warned subscribers against a fraudulent social media message asking users who have not received the payment or whose status shows “NOT ELIGIBLE” to send “YES” to an unofficial code with a promise of receiving the money within 24 hours.
In a response to the circulating message, MTN Support clarified that the instruction did not originate from the telecommunications company and urged subscribers to disregard it.
The company also warned users against clicking unverified links, sharing personal information, OTPs, PINs or passwords, or making payments based on suspicious messages.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, had earlier announced on October 30 that selected beneficiaries would receive ₦50,000 monthly to support their essential needs.
Doro explained that beneficiaries would receive SMS notifications from approved payment providers requesting their consent before the funds were transferred.
He stressed that the programme was free and that beneficiaries were not required to apply, pay any fee or register through agents.
The ministry also cautioned Nigerians against disclosing their PINs and Bank Verification Numbers to anyone.
Meanwhile, the NERSI portal explained that beneficiaries are being contacted in batches, adding that those whose status shows “NOT SELECTED” may not necessarily be permanently excluded from the programme.
For enquiries, beneficiaries can contact the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222 or MoMo PSB customer support on 671.
