Tension In Enugu Communities As River Turns To Blood
Information reaching us that, Residents of the communities of Nomeh, Unateze, Mburumbu, and Nkerefi in Enugu state’s Nkanu East Local Government Area are reportedly living in fear because the Nvuna River, their only source of water, has allegedly turned to blood.
Community members who raised an alarm following the unusual occurrence speculated that fishermen and robbers might have been responsible for the unexpected occurrence. However, an ethanol processing firm in the Ituku Ozalla region of the state was accused of dumping waste water into the river.
The state governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, dispatched a team of experts led by his special adviser on water management, Chief Dubem Onyia, on a fact-finding mission to the site in an effort to stop the situation and prevent an outbreak.
Following their inquiry yesterday, the state government’s team concluded that there was still pollution. They did, however, obtain water samples for further research in the lab.
