FEC Approves ₦631.3bn for Nine Road Projects Nationwide — Umahi
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved ₦631.3 billion for nine road infrastructure projects across Nigeria as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve transportation networks, boost economic activities and strengthen national integration.
The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
According to Umahi, the approved projects cover several states and include new road construction, remedial works and rehabilitation interventions aimed at addressing critical infrastructure gaps across the country.

Among the projects approved are the 81.1-kilometre Ado–Ilawe–Ilumaba–Ikole Road in Ekiti State, the 95-kilometre Etuke–Okene–Ankpa–Otopa Road in Kogi State, and the Bichi Ring Road in Kano State.
The Council also approved road projects in Adamawa and Taraba states, remedial works on the East-West Road, and the rehabilitation of the Sokoto–Illela Road.
The projects are expected to improve connectivity between communities, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and industrial goods, reduce transportation costs and create employment opportunities.
The Ministry of Works said the investments reflect the administration’s commitment to using road infrastructure as a catalyst for economic growth and development under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Umahi noted that efficient road networks are essential for promoting trade, attracting investments, supporting agricultural production and improving access to essential services such as healthcare and education.
Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway Records Progress
The minister also announced significant progress on the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, disclosing that the first 118 kilometres of the road had been completed, while work on the remaining sections was nearing completion.
He said the completed sections feature both asphaltic and concrete pavements and are equipped with solar-powered streetlights to improve visibility and enhance safety for motorists at night.
The expressway serves as a major transportation corridor for passenger movement, commercial activities and regional economic integration.
The progress recorded on the highway, according to the ministry, demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure projects and improving road quality across the country.
The ministry further emphasised that effective project implementation, quality assurance, transparency and value for money remain essential to ensuring that infrastructure investments deliver tangible benefits to Nigerians.
It added that the government would continue to prioritise the development and maintenance of the national road network to support economic productivity, strengthen national cohesion and advance the goal of shared prosperity.
