Umahi Urges Nigerians to Support Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid, Cites Infrastructure Projects

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid, citing the administration’s infrastructure development drive and economic reforms.

Umahi made the appeal on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, during a town hall meeting at the Coronation Hall in Kano State, ahead of the commissioning of major road projects scheduled for Wednesday, October 21.
The minister also called on residents of Kano State to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s second-term ambition, praising his leadership, commitment to peace and unity, and efforts to promote development across the state.
Umahi expressed admiration for Kano’s environmental cleanliness, describing it as a reflection of effective governance and responsible management of public resources.
“I am yet to see another State that is beating Kano in cleanliness. In all the streets we passed through, you could pick a pin,” the minister said.
He commended Yusuf for bringing together political leaders, former governors, prominent indigenes and other stakeholders, noting that the governor’s inclusive approach demonstrated respect and a commitment to the collective progress of the state.
The minister also advocated greater representation of engineers in leadership positions, arguing that their technical expertise, professional knowledge and problem-solving abilities could improve governance and infrastructure delivery.
Umahi reaffirmed the South-East’s commitment to national unity and the Tinubu administration, dismissing the perception that the region was opposed to the president.
Speaking on the federal government’s economic reforms, he described the removal of the petroleum subsidy and other policy decisions as difficult but necessary measures to reposition the Nigerian economy for sustainable growth.
According to him, the impact of the reforms is becoming evident through infrastructure projects and other development initiatives across the country.
“The worst is over. The darkest part of the morning is the dawn. We are moving into prosperity as a result of the hard decisions occasioned by the reforms,” Umahi stated.
He urged Nigerians to remain patient and support the administration, arguing that continuity in leadership would help consolidate the gains of ongoing economic reforms and sustain infrastructure development.
Earlier, Governor Yusuf commended the Federal Government for its commitment to road infrastructure development, particularly projects aimed at improving transportation, economic activities and connectivity across Kano State and the North-West region.
The governor highlighted the scheduled commissioning of outstanding works on Section I, Lot 1 of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway, covering the Zaria-Kano stretch.
He described the project as an important milestone in the country’s infrastructure development and expressed appreciation to Tinubu for the support extended to Kano State.
The Federal Ministry of Works reiterated its commitment to delivering durable, safe and quality road infrastructure nationwide under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
