US Operation: Sokoto Residents Flee As Explosive Device Bursts Into Flames
Residents of Jabo town in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State were thrown into panic on Thursday night after an explosive device burst into flames, forcing many to flee their homes.
The incident, which occurred at about 9:30 p.m., sparked tension in the community, with eyewitnesses reporting a loud impact that shook nearby houses. The explosion happened less than two hours before former United States President Donald Trump announced a major military operation against terrorists in Nigeria’s North-West region, of which Sokoto State is a part.
It remains unclear whether the reported U.S. operation was connected to the incident in Jabo, as Trump did not provide specific details about the locations involved, and the Nigerian government had not issued any official comment as of the time of filing this report.
An eyewitness, Attahiru Madawaki Jabo, said the explosive device caught fire immediately after hitting the ground on the outskirts of the town.
“I was at home when we heard a loud sound which shook some of our houses. Immediately the explosive object hit the ground at the outskirt of Jabo town, it burst into fire,” he said.
Local sources said soldiers stationed at a nearby checkpoint swiftly moved to the scene, cordoned off the area, and recovered scattered parts of the device, which were later taken to their base.
Despite the military’s intervention, fear persisted in the community, with some residents refusing to return to their homes over concerns about the possibility of another explosion.
As of press time, no official statement had been released by security agencies or government authorities regarding the incident or its possible link to ongoing counterterrorism operations in the region.
