Nigeria Commend Establishment Of The WDO

Nigeria has welcomed the establishment of the World Data Organization (WDO).
The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa made the comment while speaking to newsmen at the Inaugural Assembly of the World Data Organization on Monday 30th March, 2026 at the International Conference Centre in Beijing, China.

Mr. Ebienfa emphasized the importance of having a secure and rule-based data system for global cooperation, stating that establishing the World Data Organization to drive the process is a “good one”. He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s interest in data management, structured access and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

The World Data Organization aims to bridge global digital divides, and Nigeria’s involvement underlines its commitment to international cooperation on data governance and digital infrastructure.

Headquartered in Beijing, China, the World Data Organization is a non-governmental, non-profit platform aimed at coordinating global data cooperation.

The new Organization is positioned as an open, international organization for industry players, researchers and institutions and seeks to “bridge the data divide, unlock data value and drive digital economic growth”.

The Inaugural Assembly brought together institutions and companies from multiple countries to promote cooperation across the data ecosystem.

The launch remains imperative as data is increasingly viewed as a strategic production factor, underpinning industrial upgrading and economic expansion.
