Army Nabs Two Gunrunning Suspects, Seizes 444 Rounds in Wukari Operation

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered 444 rounds of ammunition during a routine stop-and-search operation in Taraba State.
The operation, carried out on March 19, 2026, along the Wukari–Ikyaior Road in Wukari Local Government Area, led to the interception of the suspects who were traveling on a motorcycle.
The suspects were identified as Wisdom Soomga, 32, from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and Elisha Danladi, 38, a native of Wukari Local Government Area in Taraba State.
A search conducted on the suspects resulted in the recovery of 444 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Other items found in their possession included ₦29,200 in cash, two mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, personal effects, and the motorcycle used for transportation.
The suspects, along with the recovered items, are currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the source and intended use of the ammunition.
Reacting to the development, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their vigilance and swift action. He noted that their efforts align with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to decisively tackle criminal activities and strengthen security across Taraba State.
The commander urged the troops to maintain the momentum and remain committed to eliminating all forms of criminality in the area.
He also reassured law-abiding citizens of the Nigerian Army’s continued dedication to protecting lives and property, while encouraging the public to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
Brigadier General Akaliro further emphasized the importance of professionalism within the force, reiterating his commitment to rewarding exemplary conduct while enforcing discipline among personnel.
