World Bank, IMF Recognise Tinubu’s Reforms as Nigeria’s $1trn Economy Target Becomes Achievable – Yilwatda

    Tinubu Begs Nigerians

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms are positioning Nigeria for sustainable growth, with the ambition of building a $1 trillion economy becoming increasingly achievable.
Yilwatda said the direction and potential of the reforms had received recognition from major international financial institutions, including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The APC National Chairman made the remarks in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during the rally organised to welcome President Tinubu and his entourage at the Senator Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Addressing the gathering, Yilwatda commended the President for demonstrating the political courage to confront longstanding structural challenges affecting the Nigerian economy, describing the reforms as necessary steps towards national economic recovery and prosperity.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the APC chairman acknowledged that the reforms had brought difficult adjustments but warned that abandoning them would reverse the country’s progress and return Nigeria to the economic difficulties that necessitated the policy changes.

He described Tinubu’s $1 trillion economy ambition as a strategic national development objective rather than a mere political promise, noting that deliberate policy decisions and ongoing economic restructuring were creating the foundation for its realisation.
Yilwatda identified investments in infrastructure, transportation, education, maritime development and financial inclusion as major drivers of the administration’s economic transformation agenda.

He specifically described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a landmark project capable of improving connectivity, stimulating commercial activities and unlocking economic opportunities for Akwa Ibom and other coastal communities.

According to him, the Federal Government’s commitment to developing the maritime sector would strengthen the competitiveness of coastal states and increase their contributions to Nigeria’s economic development.
On education and social welfare, he praised the student loan initiative for expanding access to higher education and highlighted interventions targeting women and small businesses as measures promoting economic participation.
He further explained that the tax reforms were designed to reduce the financial burden on low-income earners and small businesses, allowing them to retain more of their income and operate in a favourable business environment.
The APC chairman also listed improved industrial harmony in the education sector and efforts to settle outstanding obligations to workers, pensioners and retirees of formerly privatised public enterprises among the administration’s achievements.

He urged Nigerians to remain supportive of the reforms, declaring: “Never again should Nigeria return to Egypt. We cannot afford to abandon the difficult but necessary work of rebuilding our economy and repositioning our country for sustainable growth.”

Yilwatda maintained that the policies and investments of the Tinubu administration were laying the groundwork for long-term prosperity and a more competitive Nigerian economy.
