Journalists Forum Hails Umo Eno as Tinubu Approves Ibom Deep Seaport, Airport Upgrade

The Akwa Ibom Journalists Forum, Abuja, has congratulated Governor Umo Eno following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of the long-awaited Ibom Deep Seaport project.
President Tinubu announced the approval on Friday, November 6, 2026, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during a reception and rally organised in his honour.

The President’s decision followed an appeal by Governor Eno, who presented the request on behalf of the people of Akwa Ibom State.
In a congratulatory message jointly signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Dominic Edem, and Secretary, Nathan Williams, the journalists described the approval as a landmark achievement and a demonstration of Governor Eno’s visionary leadership, quiet diplomacy, persistence and commitment to the economic transformation of the state.
The Forum recalled that the Ibom Deep Seaport, initially conceived as the Ibaka Deep Seaport and Industrial City under former Governor Victor Attah, had remained unrealised for more than two decades despite featuring prominently in successive presidential campaigns.
It expressed optimism that the project, upon completion, would transform Akwa Ibom’s economic landscape by creating thousands of jobs, attracting international investments, expanding global trade opportunities and positioning the state as a major maritime and industrial hub in West Africa.
The Forum also commended President Tinubu for fulfilling his 2023 campaign promise, which he made at the same stadium, describing the approval as a significant step towards actualising the state’s long-standing development aspirations.
It further applauded the President for approving the upgrade of Victor Attah International Airport to full international status, noting that the development would strengthen the state’s aviation infrastructure and improve its investment and tourism prospects.
The Forum urged stakeholders to sustain the momentum towards the actualisation of the projects, expressing confidence that their completion would usher in a new era of economic growth and prosperity for Akwa Ibom State.
