WATCH: Video Shows Suspected JIBWIS Members Chanting For AK-47s, Threatening Attacks In Enugu, Jos

A disturbing video obtained by Ibom Focus has shown a group of young people reportedly identified as members of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), also known as Izala, jogging in formation while chanting about obtaining AK-47 rifles to attack people in Enugu State and Jos, Plateau State.
In the footage, the youths are seen participating in an organised physical exercise while repeatedly demanding firearms and singing about travelling to the two locations to attack people they describe as “infidels.”
JIBWIS, also known as Izala, is a major Salafi Islamic movement in Nigeria. It was founded in Jos in February 1978 by Sheikh Isma’ila Idris.
During the exercise, a speaker can be heard calling for an AK-47 rifle to travel to Enugu and open fire on people attending religious services on a Sunday. He describes the city as a “land of infidels” and imitates the sound of gunfire.
The speaker subsequently mentions Jos, Plateau State, requesting another rifle and threatening to kill more people he labels as “infidels.”
The group is also heard repeatedly chanting, “Give us AK-47,” while jogging together.
“We should go to Enugu. We should go to Enugu. We should go to Enugu,” the youths sing in the recording.
They subsequently chant, “Where infidels are,” followed by repeated references to Sunday and people celebrating or chatting.
In another section of the video, the group appears to issue further threats, repeatedly singing, “I will give them fire! I will give them fire!”
The chants continue as the youths demand AK-47 rifles and mention Jos as another destination.
“We should go to Jos. We should go to Jos,” they sing.
The footage has raised concerns over possible religiously motivated violence and threats against residents of the two cities.
However, the identities of the individuals in the video, the circumstances surrounding the recording and whether the threats represent an actual operational plan have not been independently established.
