EFCC Arraigns Abraham Abiara Over Alleged $626,282 Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Abraham Idowu Abiara before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja over an alleged fraud involving $626,282.
Abiara was arraigned on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, by the EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, Ikoyi, before Justice Ismail Ijelu on a one-count charge bordering on stealing and dishonest conversion of funds.

According to the charge, the defendant allegedly converted the funds to his personal use on or about September 2, 2015, in Lagos.
The charge reads in part that Abiara dishonestly converted the sum of $626,282, an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

When the charge was read to him, Abiara pleaded not guilty.

Following his plea, the prosecution counsel, C.C. Okezie, urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility and fix a date for the commencement of trial.
Justice Ijelu subsequently adjourned the case until October 26, 2026, for the hearing of the defendant’s bail application and the commencement of trial.
The defendant remains on trial over the allegations, which have yet to be proven in court.
