NAF Intensifies Wreckage Recovery in Igbokoda, Assures Bereaved Families of Support
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified efforts to recover the main wreckage at the crash site in Igbokoda, Ondo State, while assuring bereaved families of continued support and welfare benefits.
The Air Officer Commanding, Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal MC Ekwueme, visited the community on the directive of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to address concerns raised by residents over the possible impact of the ongoing recovery operations on their water source.
During the engagement, Ekwueme acknowledged the community’s concerns and assured residents that the NAF would work towards addressing the issues. He also appreciated them for their patience and cooperation throughout the operation.
At the recovery site, the AOC interacted with personnel and assessed the progress of the operation, which has been complicated by difficult underwater conditions and challenging terrain.
According to the NAF, multiple pumping machines have been deployed to drain water from the area surrounding the crash site to facilitate access to the main wreckage, which remains submerged and deeply embedded in the riverbed.
The Service explained that the recovery process requires sustained efforts, specialised technical assistance and careful coordination to ensure the operation proceeds safely and effectively.
Meanwhile, the Chief of the Air Staff has reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to supporting families who lost their loved ones in the incident.
The Service stated that all applicable entitlements, including benevolent funds, scholarships for eligible children and other approved welfare benefits, would be processed accordingly.
The NAF added that its responsibility to the affected families goes beyond the recovery operation, stressing its commitment to providing assistance with compassion and dignity.
It also disclosed that a dedicated helpline had been established at the NAF Headquarters to enable affected families to access timely and appropriate information.
The Service further assured the Igbokoda community that it would continue to engage residents and address environmental concerns through appropriate channels.
The NAF said it would sustain recovery efforts, support bereaved families and provide verified updates as significant developments emerge.
