Army Refutes Welfare Allegations by Ex-Soldier Rotimi Olamilekan

    Welfare Allegations

The Nigerian Army has dismissed allegations made by a former soldier, Rotimi Olamilekan, popularly known as “Soja Boi,” describing his claims as misleading and unfounded.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army said Olamilekan was not dismissed for “speaking the truth” as claimed in a viral interview, but for repeated acts of indiscipline and violations of military regulations.
According to the statement, his dismissal followed due process in line with the Armed Forces Act and existing codes of conduct. The Army noted that his actions included unauthorized media engagements, misuse of military identity, and breaches of the Armed Forces Social Media Policy.
Reacting to claims about poor welfare and remuneration, the Army maintained that it operates a structured and transparent salary system guided by the Manual of Financial Administration for the Armed Forces of Nigeria. It added that personnel receive various allowances, including uniform allowance, ration cash allowance, and operational allowances, particularly for those deployed in conflict zones such as Operation HADIN KAI.
The Army also rejected assertions that soldiers are required to purchase their own uniforms and protective gear, describing the claim as “entirely false.” It explained that uniforms, arms, ammunition, and protective equipment are provided through established logistics systems managed by designated ordnance units.
While acknowledging that some personnel may choose to purchase additional kits for personal comfort, the Army stressed that such decisions are voluntary and do not reflect any systemic shortcomings.
It further emphasized that no soldier is deployed for operations without adequate protective equipment, dismissing suggestions that such gear is only issued during ceremonial visits as “deliberate falsehoods.”
The Army urged the public to disregard the claims and avoid spreading unverified information capable of undermining troop morale and national security.
Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of its personnel and the security of the nation, the Nigerian Army called on the media to rely on credible and official sources when reporting on military matters.
