Residents of Lagos State, on Sunday, started buying food items at discounted prices from designated markets across the state as the “Ounje Eko” initiative kicked off.

This was revealed in videos shared on X by netizens on Sunday.

Sunday PUNCH had earlier reported that Lagosians may flood the various locations to buy food items at friendly prices following the announcement by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that the “Ounje Eko” food markets will begin sales of food items at discounted prices in the five divisions of the state on Sunday, March 17.

A video shared by  user, #TemitopeEbenez4, showed residents standing in a long queue at an undisclosed market.

#TemitopeEbenez4 wrote, “Before then go say na audio. The line long sha. #lasma, #npf and #lnsc are really doing a great job.”

Commenting, another user #OneNaijaPatriot wrote, ” Audio ke, real as real. I just returned from the Mosan Okunola centre in Alimosho.
Less crowd and the orderliness was top-notch.

“Kudos to the security agents on the ground. The officials are also wonderful. The market women were even thanking us for buying from them.”

Videos shared by another user, #bharmedheyle, showed residents thronging towards the entrance of a building in Ijaiye Ojokoro Senior School in Ojokoro LCDA to buy food items.

Sanwo-Olu had stated in a live media chat that the ‘Sunday Markets’ initiative was aimed at cushioning the effect of the high cost of living in the country.

The food markets would operate exclusively on Sundays from 11am to 4pm across 57 locations in the state.
