Umahi Mourns Bishop Nworie, Describes His Death as Monumental Loss to Church, Nation

The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Nweze Umahi, CON, FNSE, FNATE, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Most Reverend Dr. Bishop Peter Nworie Chukwu, describing his death as a monumental loss to the Church and the nation at large.
In a condolence message, Senator Umahi said he received the news of the revered Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki with profound grief and a heavy heart, noting that his departure marks the end of an era defined by selfless service, deep spirituality, and unwavering dedication to the work of God.
He described the late Bishop as not only a spiritual father to his flock but also a moral compass to society, an embodiment of discipline, and a shining example of sacrificial leadership.
“Most Rev. Dr. Chukwu distinguished himself as a teacher of the Word and a shepherd of souls through his calm wisdom, pastoral care, and his ability to reach people from all walks of life with equal compassion,” the Minister stated.
Senator Umahi further noted that at a time when moral clarity and spiritual guidance are greatly needed, the passing of Bishop Nworie leaves a significant void. He, however, emphasized that the late cleric’s legacy will continue to inspire generations through the lives he touched, the faith he strengthened, and his enduring impact across Ebonyi State and beyond.
On behalf of his family and the Federal Ministry of Works, the Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to the Catholic faithful, the clergy and religious of the Diocese of Abakaliki, as well as the immediate and extended family of the late Bishop.
He also commiserated with all who were privileged to encounter the Bishop’s remarkable life and ministry.
Senator Umahi prayed that Almighty God grants the gentle soul of the departed eternal rest and gives the Church and all who mourn him the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
