#TinubuMustGo: Tinubu’s Only Interest Is Landgrabbing, Taking Loans, Using Minister Wike To Cause Confusion
Omoyele Sowore, Human rights activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has slammed President Bola Tinubu for governing Nigeria with misplaced priorities.
Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, said that instead of addressing Nigeria’s mounting social and economic crises, especially the worsening insecurity, President Tinubu’s major interest and focus is on landgrabbing, accumulating loans, allegedly stealing the borrowed funds, and using the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to cause confusion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, Sowore wrote, “Tinubu appears not to even know what’s going on in Nigeria, except where there is land to grab, loans to obtain and steal and using Nyesom Wike to cause confusion in preparation for his failed and dead 2027 ambition. At this point, #TinubuMustGo!”
Sowore’s remarks come amid public concern over the worsening insecurity and economic failure of Nigeria and the direction of the Tinubu administration, particularly amid rising inflation, soaring living costs, and growing dissatisfaction among Nigerians, civil society groups and opposition figures.
Since assuming office in May 2023, President Tinubu has expanded government borrowing to fund infrastructure and economic reforms.
While officials defend the borrowing as necessary to stabilise the economy, critics argue that Nigeria’s debt burden has grown without corresponding improvements in key sectors.
Concerns about transparency in loan utilisation have also fuelled distrust among the public.
The activist’s allegation of “landgrabbing” references ongoing controversies involving land administration in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Under FCT Minister Wike, the government has embarked on aggressive demolition and land recovery exercises claimed to be aimed at restoring Abuja’s master plan.
Although Wike maintains that the demolition drives target illegal structures, opponents insist the actions are politically motivated and disproportionately affect rival political interests and economically vulnerable residents, especially as the minister has faced a series of allegations of reallocating revoked lands to his children and cronies.
Sowore’s claim that Wike is being used to “cause confusion” underscores a broader perception among some opposition groups that the FCT minister has become a central figure in political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sowore, a long-standing critic of successive Nigerian governments, has repeatedly accused Tinubu of presiding over a failing administration marked by corruption, poor transparency, and worsening economic hardship.
His renewed call, “#TinubuMustGo,” echoes sentiments shared by other activists and civic groups who argue that the president is disconnected from the daily realities confronting Nigerians.
