Tinubu Mocks Peter Obi Over Anambra Election
President Bola Tinubu’s aide, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday mocked former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Saturday for losing his polling unit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the ongoing Anambra governorship election.
Bayo Onanuga who took to his X handle described Obi as “the pontificator” who could not deliver his own polling unit to his party.
“The pontificator Peter Obi loses his polling unit to APC, his candidate beaten in Anambra election,” Onanuga wrote.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) had defeated the Labour Party (LP) at the polling unit of former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.
The result, announced around 3:00 p.m. at Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11, Anaocha Local Government Area — where Obi voted earlier in the day — showed the APC candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, polling 73 votes, while the Labour Party’s George Moghalu scored 57 votes. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) followed with 38 votes.
The pontificator Peter Obi loses his polling unit to APC, his candidate beaten in Anambra election
The Labour Party (LP) lost in the polling unit of its leader, Peter Obi, in the ongoing Anambra governorship election, Premium Times reports.
The result has sent ripples through the political landscape in Anambra, where Obi has long been regarded as a dominant political force.
During the 2023 presidential election, he had delivered a landslide victory for the Labour Party, winning over 95 percent of the votes in the state and sweeping all 21 local government areas.
Observers say the loss could signal waning influence of the Labour Party in the state or a growing voter realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Despite actively campaigning for his party’s candidate in the current election, the defeat at his home polling unit has been viewed by many as a symbolic blow to Obi’s political stature in Anambra.
As of the time of filing this report, collation of results from other polling units across the state was still ongoing.
