Tinubu Blames Opposition for Hunger, Poverty in Nigeria, Says His Government Is Working to End Them

President Bola Tinubu has blamed opposition parties for the hunger and poverty currently facing Nigerians, insisting that his administration is working to improve the country’s economic situation.

Tinubu made the remarks on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off rally in Kaduna State, where he urged Nigerians to support his re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to supporters, the President accused opposition politicians of creating the economic problems they now use to criticise his administration.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did. They created hunger. They created poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” Tinubu said.
The President also accused his opponents of offering Nigerians hatred instead of practical solutions to the country’s economic challenges.
“Our opponents are angry because they are playing you. They have nothing to offer you but hate. We have prosperity, consistency, growth, recovery, and opportunity. I assure you,” he added.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to be cautious of opposition campaign messages, warning his supporters against being misled by political opponents.
“Be careful. Watch them. Don’t let them lie to you,” he told the crowd.
The President also called on eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the electoral process.
“Do you have your PVC? Do you have your PVC? Show your hands,” he asked supporters at the rally.
He further urged Nigerians to vote for APC candidates in the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and state House of Assembly elections.
Tinubu commended APC governors for their performance, particularly in paying workers’ salaries and implementing development programmes across their respective states.
He expressed confidence that his administration’s economic policies would eventually deliver prosperity, recovery and better opportunities for Nigerians.
The Kaduna rally marked the formal commencement of the APC’s campaign to secure another presidential term for Tinubu in 2027.
The choice of Kaduna as the campaign’s starting point highlights the strategic importance of northern Nigeria, particularly the North-West, which remains a crucial voting bloc in presidential elections.
Tinubu’s comments come amid widespread public concerns over the rising cost of living, food prices, transportation expenses and other economic pressures affecting households across the country.
Since assuming office, his administration has introduced major economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange system.
While the government has defended the policies as necessary to stabilise the economy and encourage long-term growth, opposition parties have continued to criticise their impact on ordinary Nigerians.
The economic situation is expected to remain a major issue in the political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
