Police Arrest Four Suspects, Recover Three Stolen Vehicles
The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered three stolen vehicles in separate intelligence-led operations conducted between October 8 and 9, 2026.
The operations, carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, followed sustained efforts to combat motor vehicle theft and strengthen security across the state.
According to a press release issued by the Command, the operations align with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which prioritises intelligence-led policing, technical support and community partnership.
In the first operation, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad recovered a 2010 ash-coloured Toyota Corolla allegedly diverted by a man identified as Sale Usman, also known as Dambu.
The vehicle’s owner, Aminu Yahaya of Darmanawa Quarters, had reportedly entrusted the car to Usman on September 22, 2026, for sale, with an agreement that the proceeds would be remitted to him. However, the suspect allegedly took the vehicle to an unknown destination without the owner’s consent.
Following a complaint lodged on October 8, police operatives tracked the vehicle to Katsina, where it was recovered from a man identified as Sulaiman, who claimed to have purchased it for ₦7.5 million. Investigation into the case is ongoing.
In a separate operation, police recovered a stolen white Toyota Hiajet minibus with registration number NSR 261 XB and arrested two suspects in connection with the theft.
The vehicle, belonging to Isah Abdullahi of Bachirava Quarters in Ungogo Local Government Area, was reportedly stolen from Singer Market on October 5.
With the aid of technical support, operatives traced the minibus to a remote location in Mariri Magadawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area, where they arrested Abubakar Umar, 23, of Nasarawa GRA, and Mustapha Zubairu Abdullahi, 25, of Layin Makabarta, Tarauni Local Government Area. The stolen vehicle was recovered in their possession.
In the third operation, a 40-year-old man, Abdullahi Adamu, from Potiskum, Yobe State, was arrested by a surveillance team attached to Ungogo Police Division while allegedly attempting to repaint a Mitsubishi Canter truck.
Police said the suspect was intercepted on October 8 following credible intelligence while the truck, with registration number BLF 365 XA, featuring a blue cap and white body, was at the garage of Yushau Umar in Kadawa Quarters.
During interrogation, Adamu allegedly confessed to stealing the truck from Dan Baba Garage in Potiskum, Yobe State. The vehicle was recovered, and the Kano Command has contacted the Yobe State Police Command to facilitate further investigation and reunite it with its rightful owner.
The police said all suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of discreet investigations, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend fleeing accomplices.
CP Bakori commended the officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Ungogo Police Division for their professionalism, swift response and effective use of technical intelligence in recovering the vehicles.
The Commissioner also urged vehicle owners to exercise caution when parking their vehicles, entrust their properties only to trusted individuals and install additional security devices to prevent theft.
He further encouraged residents to provide timely and credible information to the police, particularly regarding suspicious movements and attempts to sell vehicles at unusually low prices.
