Man Arrested For Stealing Maize, Stabbing Owner To Death
A 20-year-old man identified as Abubakar Abdu has been arrested by the police in Adamawa State for stabbing to death, one Azumi Abubakar, while stealing from her maize store.
Abdu, who claimed that he took to stealing because of hunger, reportedly stabbed his victim to death because she caught him red-handed while stealing maize from her store.
The incident happened on November 7, 2024 at Gengle village in the Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State, according to a police report.
Spokesperson for the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident on Monday. He added that the matter was being treated as culpable homicide and assured the public that the suspect would be arraigned in court accordingly.
He said, “On the 10/11/2024 Adamawa State Police Command in its fight against violent crimes apprehended a 20-year-old Abubakar Abdu, a resident of Gengle village of Mayo Belwa Local Government Area, for stabbing to death one Azumi Abubakar, 30 years old.
“The suspect had on 7/11/2024 at about 0300hrs broke into the house of the victim and stole some quantity of maize. In an attempt to escaped, the victim sighted, identified and called the suspect by his name.
“Upon realizing that he had been recognized, he immediately attacked the victim by stabbing her with a knife as a result of which she died.
“His arrest followed the complaint received from the victim’s husband.
“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.”
