Speaker Abbas Flags Off Education, Healthcare, Security Projects in Kaduna
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has initiated fresh development projects covering education, healthcare and security in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Abbas, who represents Zaria Federal Constituency, performed foundation-laying ceremonies for several projects on Saturday, October 31, 2026, as part of his constituency development initiatives.
The projects include the construction of a new secondary school comprising 10 classrooms, offices and toilet facilities within the premises of Saidu Primary School, as well as a study centre for the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), both in Samaru.
In the health sector, the Speaker facilitated the construction of a diagnostic centre at Isa Chikaji Primary Healthcare Centre and a 20-bed primary healthcare facility at Zangon Dan Borno, both in Dogarawa.
He also facilitated the construction of a police station under the Zaria Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen security and public safety in Sabon Gari.
Speaking during the ceremonies, Abbas said the projects were designed to improve access to quality education, healthcare services and security while expanding opportunities for residents.
He explained that the facilities would address practical needs in the communities, including providing conducive learning environments for students, accessible medical diagnosis for patients and improved security infrastructure.
The Speaker, however, stressed that groundbreaking ceremonies must be followed by actual project delivery, insisting that his responsibility would continue beyond the ceremonies.
“A groundbreaking begins an obligation. It does not discharge it. The ceremony ends today. The responsibility continues tomorrow,” he said.
Abbas further disclosed that his wider development programme included a youth development centre, stressing the need to connect skills acquisition and training with employment opportunities and enterprise development.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to completing ongoing projects, including the 320-bed male and female hostel at the National Institute for Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), renovation of Aminu Primary School, runway extension at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), and faculty buildings at Ahmadu Bello University.
According to him, additional projects captured in the 2026 Budget include a new terminal and runway for commercial flights at NCAT, a library, rural market, mega town hall, upgraded polo field, reconstructed township stadium and road projects.
The Speaker said the initiatives aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that its impact must be reflected in improved living conditions and essential services at the grassroots.
