EFCC Arraigns Sierra Leonean Over Alleged $190,324 Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a Sierra Leonean, Favour Foday Kamara, over an alleged $190,324 fraud involving a 70-year-old United States-based Sierra Leonean, Henrietta Vandi.
Kamara was arraigned on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, by the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, before Justice O. A. Okunuga of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the EFCC, Vandi alleged that she met the defendant during a visit to the Synagogue Church of All Nations between 2019 and 2020. She claimed that Kamara subsequently persuaded her to invest in Nigeria.

The commission’s investigation revealed that Vandi allegedly sent money to the defendant through Ria, Western Union, MoneyGram and cash transfers into his Access Bank account.
The funds were reportedly intended for the purchase and renovation of a property located at 30 Gbenga Ogunleye/Atobatele Street, Cele Bus Stop, Araromi, Alimosho, Lagos.
However, further investigations allegedly showed that the property was purchased in Kamara’s name. The EFCC also alleged that he resides in the property and collects rent from tenants.
Following the conclusion of its investigation, the commission filed a two-count charge against the defendant bordering on alleged stealing and fraudulent conversion of $190,324.
One of the charges alleged that Kamara dishonestly converted the sum of $190,324 belonging to Vandi to his personal use between August 2021 and February 2025 in Lagos.
The charge was brought under Sections 278(1)(b) and 285(9) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
When the charges were read to him, Kamara pleaded not guilty.
Following his plea, EFCC prosecution counsel, Nnaemeka Omewa, requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre.
Justice Okunuga subsequently adjourned the case until October 29, 2026, and ordered that Kamara be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
The allegations are yet to be determined by the court.
