Germany Commends Nigeria’s Role in Promoting Regional Peace, Security
The German Government has commended Nigeria for its leadership role in promoting peace and security in West Africa, describing the country as an anchor of stability in the sub-region.
German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stefan Rossel, made the commendation on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
Rossel described Nigeria as a valued partner of Germany and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding bilateral relationship, particularly in defence and security cooperation.
He noted that sustained collaboration between both countries would create opportunities for mutually beneficial projects and initiatives, while expressing Germany’s readiness to deepen its engagement with Nigeria.

During the meeting, the German Technical Advisory Group (G-TAG) briefed the CDS on the progress and impact of its ongoing training programmes for the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), highlighting efforts to improve military professionalism and operational capacity.
Responding, General Oluyede appreciated the German Government for its continued partnership and support to the Nigerian Armed Forces.
He specifically acknowledged G-TAG’s contributions to the development of the Mechatronics School, Combat Tactical Care Training and Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices Training, as well as other capacity-building programmes and material assistance.
The CDS stressed the need to sustain and expand the existing defence partnership, particularly in specialised military training and professional development.
He also called for increased opportunities for Nigerian military personnel to participate in strategic and advanced courses to strengthen their professional capabilities and operational effectiveness.
Oluyede assured the German Ambassador of the Armed Forces’ readiness to consolidate the existing relationship and explore new areas of cooperation to address emerging security challenges.
The visit further reinforced the longstanding defence partnership between Nigeria and Germany and their shared commitment to regional stability and international security.
