Afrofuji musician Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has died. He was reported to be 22 years old at the time of his death.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of his death had not been disclosed. Details surrounding the circumstances remain unclear, even as news of his passing spread rapidly across social media platforms and entertainment circles.
Following the announcement of his death, a post previously shared by the singer on social media resurfaced and has since gone viral. In the post, Destiny Boy appeared to reflect on ambition, success and mortality, writing, “Either I make this money or I die young, money must be made.”
The statement has drawn renewed attention in the wake of his sudden death.
A video published by Kwara Eaglet showed the late musician’s body being transported on a bus to a location that had yet to be identified. In the video, it was stated that he vomited an unknown substance, although no official explanation has been provided regarding what led to his condition or eventual death.
In November 2024, Destiny Boy and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child, a baby boy. Announcing the birth at the time, the singer expressed gratitude, writing, “Alhamdulillah. Junior is here. My first son.”
The late musician began his journey in the entertainment industry at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos State. He initially worked as a backup dancer for renowned Fuji artist Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, a role that helped shape his musical direction and exposure within the Fuji music scene.
He rose to prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song “If,” which quickly gained traction and went viral on social media. The success of the cover established him as one of the young voices redefining Fuji music for a new generation. Following that breakthrough, Destiny Boy went on to release several other covers of popular songs by Nigerian artists, including Tekno, 2 Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor, further cementing his place in the evolving Afrofuji sound. His original music catalogue featured tracks such as Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey, reflecting his signature blend of traditional Fuji rhythms with contemporary Nigerian music elements.
Since news of his death broke, many Nigerians have taken to social media to express shock and sadness, while offering prayers for the repose of his soul and strength for his family.
