Obi Faults Tinubu Over Absence in Bayelsa, Pledges New Seaport and Niger Delta Port Upgrades
The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his alleged failure to spend a night in Bayelsa State since assuming office, despite reportedly spending more than 260 days outside the country.
Obi made the criticism on Friday, October 30, during the homecoming ceremony of the NDC National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, in Yenagoa.
He promised that, if elected president, he would maintain regular visits to Bayelsa State to interact with residents, understand their challenges and address issues affecting the people.
The former Anambra State governor also unveiled plans to strengthen maritime activities in the Niger Delta, promising to upgrade the ports in Warri, Port Harcourt and Calabar, commence construction of the long-awaited Ibaka Seaport in Akwa Ibom State and establish a new seaport in Bayelsa.

According to Obi, the proposed projects would boost economic activities, create opportunities and accelerate development across the Niger Delta region.
He further pledged to prioritise national security, national unity, the fight against corruption, healthcare and education, while implementing policies aimed at reducing poverty.
The event concluded with Obi and Dickson participating in a traditional canoe war game and boat regatta in Toru-Orua, Dickson’s hometown in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
