Military Destroys Lakurawa Camps, Recovers Five Motorcycles in Sokoto
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have dealt a significant blow to Lakurawa terrorists in Sokoto State after overrunning their enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area, during a clearance operation.
The operation, carried out on October 15, 2026, resulted in the neutralisation of several terrorists, the destruction of their camps and the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles.
The military operation involved troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, who advanced through suspected terrorist hideouts around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages before proceeding towards Waria Forest.
According to the operational account, the troops encountered the terrorists during their advance, triggering a firefight.
However, the troops gained the upper hand through superior firepower, compelling the terrorists to abandon their positions and retreat further into the forest.
The advancing troops pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them before conducting further exploitation of the area.
During the subsequent clearance, the troops destroyed the terrorists’ camps and all associated life-support structures, while recovering weapons and five motorcycles believed to have been abandoned during the operation.
The Theatre Command said troops remained deployed across the general area to sustain clearance and domination operations, with the objective of denying terrorists freedom of action and improving security for neighbouring communities.
It added that the operation formed part of sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist strongholds, eliminate safe havens and restore lasting peace across the Joint Operations Area.
The command praised the troops for their courage, resilience and commitment to the ongoing operations.
It also called on residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible intelligence on suspicious movements and activities to support efforts to combat terrorism and protect communities across the region.
