Suspect Reveals Why He Allegedly Killed His Girlfriend, Claims She Demanded N1.5m to Sleep With Another Man

Benjamin Best Nnanyereugo, the gambler popularly known as Killaboi, has narrated before a Lagos State High Court how he allegedly discovered messages suggesting that his late girlfriend, Augusta Oseodion, was negotiating sex with another man for N1.5 million.

The defendant, who is standing trial for Augusta’s alleged murder, gave the account on Thursday while testifying in his defence before Justice Ibironke Harrison.
Killaboi told the court that the discovery caused him severe emotional distress and eventually led him to confront Augusta and end their relationship.
Recounting the events, he said everything began in late June 2023 when he lost money on a sports bet and became unhappy.
According to him, Augusta tried to encourage him by reminding him of his previous betting successes, but he remained moody.
He said Augusta later returned to school, while he continued monitoring her Instagram account, to which he claimed he had access.
Killaboi alleged that he observed her exchanging messages with accounts belonging to people who were not her friends on the platform. He further claimed that some of the conversations were subsequently deleted.
He told the court that he monitored the account for approximately one week and noticed messages involving club invitations and enquiries about Augusta’s welfare.
The defendant said he eventually agreed that Augusta could visit Lagos for the weekend but planned to log out of her Instagram account before she arrived so she would not discover that he had been monitoring her activities.
His suspicion allegedly increased when he came across a message from an account identified as “Yako”.
Killaboi told the court that the sender called Augusta “sweetheart”, informed her that he had deactivated his Snapchat account and suggested that they continue communicating on Instagram.
He claimed the sender asked when she would visit Lagos, and Augusta allegedly responded that she could come whenever he wanted.
According to the defendant, the conversation later turned to money, with Augusta allegedly insisting that she would not lower her price.
He said the sender subsequently requested her WhatsApp number to continue the discussion.
Killaboi testified that he decided to investigate by obtaining a virtual SIM card and opening a WhatsApp account using the name and profile picture associated with “Yako”.
He claimed that he then posed as the sender and continued chatting with Augusta.
When he asked her to remind him of the amount she wanted, she allegedly quoted N1.5 million, he told the court.
Killaboi said he offered N800,000, but Augusta allegedly rejected the amount, explaining that she was taking a significant risk.
He further claimed that he asked whether they would meet in a hotel or an apartment, and she allegedly told him that either option was acceptable as long as he provided the location.
According to his testimony, he later increased his offer to N1 million, but she allegedly rejected it before he agreed to the N1.5 million demand.
The defendant also claimed that he proposed having sex without a condom, provided both of them underwent medical tests, and that Augusta agreed.
He said the conversation convinced him that she was discussing a sexual encounter in exchange for payment.
Killaboi told the court that he was shaking and emotionally overwhelmed as he read the messages.
He said he considered sending the money through a friend and arranging a hotel meeting to confront Augusta but later abandoned the idea.
According to him, he reasoned that he did not need to spend N1.5 million to establish whether his girlfriend was being unfaithful.
He said he subsequently decided to confront her directly and bring their relationship to an end.
The defendant told the court that he initiated a video call with Augusta, but she screamed and dropped the phone after seeing him.
He claimed that he confronted her about the alleged arrangement, told her he knew what she had been doing and declared that their relationship was over.
He also said he threatened to inform her mother about the matter.
Killaboi described his relationship with Augusta’s mother as close, saying she had supported their relationship, prayed for him regularly and attended a church he sometimes visited.
He said he eventually reached her after initially being unable to contact her for about 20 minutes and explained the messages he had allegedly discovered.
However, according to the defendant, Augusta’s mother questioned his decision to access her daughter’s Instagram account, describing the action as wrong and a criminal offence.
Killaboi said he was unhappy with her response because he had contacted her to explain the breakup, not to discuss how he had accessed the account.
He added that she indicated she would speak with Augusta, but he insisted that discussing the account was not the reason for his call before ending the conversation.
Meanwhile, Killaboi’s lawyer, Marcel Oru, asked the court to allow Augusta’s mother and brother to leave the courtroom before a proposed video recording was played.
Oru explained that the request was aimed at preventing further emotional distress for the deceased’s relatives.
The prosecution counsel, Adebayo Araba, did not oppose the request.
Oru also clarified that the recording had not yet been tendered in evidence.
The court subsequently adjourned the case until December 7 and 8, 2026, for further hearing.
The Lagos State Police Command declared Killaboi wanted on October 10, 2023, in connection with Augusta’s death.
Augusta was allegedly killed on July 13, 2023, at Killaboi’s residence in Oral Estate, Ajah, Lagos State.
Killaboi had earlier confessed to stabbing her during an argument, claiming that he did so mistakenly and never intended to kill her.
