JUST IN: FG Open Job Centres To Tackle Unemployment

The Nigerian government will open physical and virtual job centres across the country to tackle unemployment.

Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation disclosed this at the second ministerial press briefing he hosted on Wednesday.

Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, was the special guest at the event.

The minister noted that the physical and virtual job centres to be opened across the country are part of the moves by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to “address the challenges of skilling and job creation”.

A statement by the ministry on Wednesday said, “The Ministry is opening physical and virtual Job Centers across the country as part of efforts to tackle unemployment.

“These Centers will provide job-availability information and work preparation training to unemployed and under-employed Nigerians.”

The ministry said in collaboration with its agencies, it launched among others the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP), on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

This was described as a special-purpose vehicle for skills development and talent outsourcing (matching Nigerian skills with globally-available jobs), to create one million jobs for Nigerians.

“NATEP is currently finalising its set-up process,” a statement by the ministry said.

It said the government had also set up “Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA), a program of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) designed to empower 10 million Nigerian artisans with improved skills and professional licenses”.

“As part of this, the ITF is partnering with AHK of Germany and City & Guilds of London to provide international-standard curriculums and vocational certifications to Nigerian artisans,” it said.

“The Ministry in partnership with Nigerian Diaspora Commission is launching a Nigerian Diaspora Investment Initiative and a Diaspora Investment Fund. The Ministry has also established a new “Catalytic Investment Unit” to oversee these diaspora investment facilitation matters,” it added.
