EFCC Investigates Businesswoman Over Alleged N8.2m Job Scam in Enugu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced investigations into a 45-year-old businesswoman, Stella Ezinne Egotanwa, over allegations that she defrauded 21 individuals of N8.29 million under the pretext of securing employment for them at Neo Psychiatric Hospital in Enugu State.

The EFCC disclosed this in a press release issued by its Enugu Zonal Directorate, stating that the suspect allegedly collected the money from the victims between December 28, 2025, and June 30, 2026.
According to the Commission, Egotanwa was arrested on July 30, 2026, by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra State following a complaint from 16 individuals who accused her of collecting N6.19 million from them for employment opportunities that never materialised.
She was subsequently handed over to the EFCC on August 26, 2026, for further investigation.
The Commission said five additional petitioners later came forward, alleging that the suspect collected another N2.09 million from them after promising to secure jobs for them at the same hospital.
One of the petitioners reportedly stated that she paid Egotanwa N1.05 million on December 28, 2025, believing that the employment offer was genuine.
However, the petitioner said the promised job never materialised and that she later experienced difficulties reaching the suspect, who allegedly stopped responding to her calls and messages at certain periods.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that Egotanwa allegedly collected the money from the 21 victims through multiple accounts belonging to different Point of Sale (POS) agents.
The EFCC further disclosed that the suspect is already awaiting trial in another case involving an alleged employment scam.
According to the Commission, Egotanwa has admitted committing the alleged offence.
The EFCC stated that she would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
