Troops Neutralise ISWAP Shura Council Member, Commander, Two Arab Fighters in Borno
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have neutralised several Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, including a high-profile member of the group’s Shura Council, during a fierce encounter in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation, conducted on October 31, 2026, also led to the neutralisation of Abul Walid, a prominent ISWAP commander and close associate of Ba Shuwa, the group’s overall Wali, as well as two high-ranking Arab fighters.
According to the Theatre Command, combined ground troops deployed in Kukawa successfully repelled a massive ISWAP assault on their locations with support from the Air Component, which deployed both ground and aerial firepower against the terrorists.

The military disclosed that several terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while troops recovered scores of arms, ammunition and communication devices.
The successful operation, it said, underscores the combat readiness, vigilance and superior firepower of Operation HADIN KAI troops in sustaining pressure on terrorist elements across the North-East.
The attack on military positions in Kukawa came barely three days after the Buni Yadi encounter, where troops reportedly neutralised 55 terrorists, including key commanders identified as Ali Mandara Abba Gajiri, also known as Munzir; Habu Ikkima Nakif Yana Faruk; and Commander Gogore.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens and sustaining military operations until terrorist groups are completely eliminated and their camps destroyed across the region.
