‘You Will Pay Taxes Beyond Your Capacity in 2027 If Tinubu Return’ – Ireti Kingibe Warns Nigerians

    Africa’s Largest Economy

Senator Ireti Kingibe has warned that Nigerians could face a heavier tax burden in 2027, raising concerns over the country’s tax policies and their potential impact on citizens.
Kingibe made the remarks in a recent video while addressing voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). She claimed that many Nigerians were unaware of a tax law she said had already been passed by the National Assembly.
According to the senator, the policy could require Nigerians to pay 25 per cent of their earnings in taxes, with implementation allegedly delayed until after the 2027 general election.
“They passed the policy, but fear won’t let them implement it until after the elections,” she said.
Her comments have sparked concerns about the timing of the proposed tax measures, particularly as households and businesses continue to grapple with economic challenges.
However, the claim that all Nigerians would be required to pay 25 per cent of their earnings in taxes requires verification against the specific provisions of the relevant legislation.
The amount of tax payable by individuals generally depends on the applicable tax rules, their income levels and the nature of their earnings.
