Interior Ministry Hosts Capacity-building Programme On Deepening Inter- Agency Collaboration For Enhanced Internal Security

The Ministry of Interior has commenced a two-day capacity-building programme for agencies under the Ministry, aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Nigeria’s internal security system.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, represented by the Chief of Staff to the Honourable Minister, Maina Tamuna, Esq., said the programme brings together critical stakeholders to promote a more coordinated and efficient approach to safeguarding national stability and unity. He described the initiative as a strategic step towards reinforcing institutional cooperation in addressing evolving security challenges.

The Hon. Minister expressed profound appreciation to the Ministry’s strategic partner, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) for its continued support, technical expertise, and commitment to strengthening democratic governance, institutional capacity, and role-based cooperation across nations. He noted that the collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to institutional synergy, capacity building, and innovative security solutions.

He emphasised the importance of using the programme as a platform for generating actionable solutions, stressing that efforts to protect critical infrastructure and national assets require agencies to function as a unified system.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated that the programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Ministry’s reform priorities, which focus on professionalism, accountability, intelligence-led operations, and improved inter-agency coordination.

The Minister encouraged participants, particularly senior officers and decision-makers, to translate lessons learned into improved policies, stronger operational strategies, and sustainable coordination frameworks within their organisations.

In his welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Honourable Minister on Training, Tunji Odewunmi, urged participants to actively engage in the sessions, noting that the programme is the first of its kind for agencies under the Ministry of Interior.

He expressed appreciation to Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) for the gesture and appealed for sustained collaboration in strengthening capacity development for personnel under the Ministry.

According to the Hon. Minister, the Ministry remains fully committed to providing leadership and fostering an enabling environment that promotes collaboration, professionalism, and operational excellence across all internal security agencies. He added that the Ministry will continue to work towards building a secure, peaceful, and resilient nation for all Nigerians.

Participants were drawn from the four paramilitary agencies under the Ministry, including members of the boards and aides to the Honourable Minister.
