IGP Disu Hosts Historic Interfaith Iftar, Lent Dinner for Police Officers
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday hosted a landmark interfaith Iftar and Lent dinner for police officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, in a move aimed at fostering unity and mutual understanding within the Nigeria Police Force.
The event, described as the first of its kind at the Force Headquarters, brought together officers from different religious backgrounds to promote tolerance, discipline, and cohesion within the Force.
Among the dignitaries present were Senator Amos Yohanna of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Honourable Jafar Yakubu of the House Committee on Police Affairs, the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs. Oluwafumilola Disu, and the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu. Also in attendance were retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Hakeem Odumosu, and Prof. Imam Musa of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Abuja Branch, alongside other key stakeholders.
In his remarks, IGP Disu highlighted the significance of Ramadan and Lent as periods of reflection, sacrifice, and service. He noted that despite differences in religious beliefs, officers of the Nigeria Police Force remain united by shared values such as discipline, compassion, and dedication to duty.
He stressed that religious harmony within the Force is essential for professionalism and effective service delivery, urging officers to continue to uphold the values of peace, tolerance, and selflessness.
The IGP also used the occasion to reassure Nigerians of improved security nationwide, stating that strategic deployments, enhanced surveillance, and proactive measures have been implemented across all Commands and Formations to ensure a peaceful festive period.
He further extended goodwill to Muslim faithful observing Ramadan, encouraging them to embody the virtues associated with the holy month.
