Tinubu Approves Ibom Deep Seaport, Victor Attah Airport Upgrade

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the development of the Ibom Deep Seaport and the upgrade of Victor Attah International Airport to international standards.
The President announced the approvals on Friday, November 6, 2026, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The approvals followed requests presented by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who appealed to the President to support the state’s major infrastructure projects.
Tinubu, while responding to the requests, expressed support for the proposed Ibom Deep Seaport, noting that the project would generate significant economic benefits and accelerate development in Akwa Ibom State.
He also approved the proposed upgrade of Victor Attah International Airport to international standards, a move expected to strengthen the state’s aviation infrastructure and improve its capacity for international air operations.
The development represents a major boost for Akwa Ibom’s long-standing ambition to establish itself as a major maritime, aviation and economic hub in the Gulf of Guinea.
The Ibom Deep Seaport project, which has been on the state’s development agenda for years, is expected to open up new opportunities in maritime trade, investment, employment generation and regional commerce.
According to the project’s status information published by the Akwa Ibom State Government, the seaport had previously secured Federal Government approval and reached the Full Business Case and procurement stage.
The latest announcement by President Tinubu is expected to renew momentum towards the actualisation of the ambitious project.
The two approvals also underscore the Federal Government’s support for Governor Eno’s efforts to attract strategic infrastructure investments capable of transforming the economic fortunes of Akwa Ibom State.
