Nigerian Police Finally Identify Corrupt Officers Who Extorted N3m From Ghana-based Nigerian At Gunpoint

The Force Headquarters of the Nigerian police has said that it has identified the policemen who extorted the sum of N3million from a Ghana-based Nigerian, Liberty Kelechi Isaac, at gunpoint in Bayelsa State.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who made this known in a post on X while reacting to SaharaReporters’ story on the alleged extortion said the action of the police officers was unacceptable and investigation had commenced into the matter.

Naija News House  had on Saturday reported that Kelechi Isaac urged the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to fish out the policemen who extorted N3million from him at gunpoint.

Isaac, who hails from Nguru Nworie autonomous community in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State spoke to journalists in Owerri on Friday.

He had narrated that the policemen accosted him and two of his friends on Monday at Udi axis in Bayelsa State and forced him at gunpoint to transfer N3 million to them after manhandling him and threatening to shoot him.

Isaac, who said that he was in the country to attend a friend’s traditional marriage ceremony in Bayelsa State, disclosed that the policemen forced him to unlock his phone and on seeing a N10 million bank alert, started beating him and threatened to kill him if he failed to transfer N6 million to them.

The spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Musa Muhammed said that he was not aware of the incident.

But reacting to the report, Adejobi said, “This matter has been taken up by the FHQ and the CP Bayelsa, CP Francis Idu. The men have been identified.

“We will continue to act on it tomorrow Monday for further investigation. The act is unacceptable and condemned.

“I personally engaged the CP, and we are on it. Justice will be served. Thanks.”
