EFCC Boss to NYSC Members: Reject Get-Rich-Quick Mentality, Shun Cybercrime

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to reject the temptation to make quick money through fraud, corruption and other illegal means.
Olukoyede made the call while addressing corps members of the 2026 Batch C, Stream 1 at NYSC orientation camps in different parts of the country.
Speaking to corps members in Lagos through Superintendent Amaka Fingesi of the EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, the EFCC Chairman described the get-rich-quick mentality as a “syndrome of compromise” capable of destroying the future of young Nigerians.
“It is a syndrome of compromise. Avoid it. Move away from it and seek to be a value-adding youth in every realm,” Olukoyede said.
He urged the corps members to embrace integrity, hard work, innovation and transparency, stressing that Nigeria needs young people who are prepared to challenge corruption and contribute meaningfully to national development.
According to him, a new generation of Nigerian youths must be “hungry for new results, angry with compromises and zealous for transparency.”
He said such youths must reject the easiest route to success and instead remain committed to purposeful and honest paths.
At the NYSC orientation camp in Ilorin, Kwara State, Olukoyede, represented by Superintendent Gbenga Adewoye, also urged corps members to embrace accountability and patriotism.
He blamed years of corruption, moral decline and mismanagement of national resources for some of the challenges facing Nigeria, urging the youths to learn from the past and help create a better future.
Similarly, at the NYSC camp in Keffi, Nasarawa State, the EFCC Chairman described corruption as a threat to the possibilities and future of young Nigerians.
Represented by Chief Superintendent Ngoundu Nguetar, Head of Public Affairs Unit of the EFCC Abuja Zonal Directorate, Olukoyede charged corps members to become nation builders and “light bearers” who would make responsible choices for the good of the country.
The EFCC boss also extended his warning against cybercrime to corps members in Abuja, Maiduguri, Uyo, Ibadan, Gombe, Kano, Makurdi, Port Harcourt, Awka, Benin City, Ekiti, Enugu and other locations.
He urged them to resist internet fraud and take advantage of technology to develop legitimate and innovative opportunities.
Olukoyede also tasked corps members with supporting the fight against corruption by becoming whistleblowers.
“Exposing corrupt practices around you is not only obligatory; it is also patriotic,” he said, urging them to report suspicious activities through the EFCC’s Eagle App.
According to him, the application allows users to submit corruption reports, upload images and remain anonymous where necessary.
