VIDEO: Many Residents Killed, Trapped As Flood Hit Popular Estate In Abuja

Adevastating flood has inundated numerous homes in the Trademore Estate, located in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leaving many residences submerged in water.

The estate is along Airport Road at Lugbe.

The flood also damaged property worth millions of naira as a result of a downpour that started on Sunday night.

In a viral video obtained by Naija News House on Monday, many houses were seen being submerged including a police station. A lady could be heard lamenting the damage caused by the flood and calling on the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike to come to the aid of the residents.

Also, two persons were said to have lost their lives in the incident but SaharaReporters could not independently verify this claim as of the time of filing this report.

The Trademore Estate has become a flood hotspot, with the community repeatedly bearing the brunt of nature’s fury over the years.

The recurrent flooding has reportedly resulted in the loss of numerous lives, leaving a trail of devastation and grief in its wake.

It would be recalled that the owner of the estate in 2022 carried out re-engineering remediation work which ensured the expansion of drainages and demolition of buildings standing along flood plains.

About 116 houses were in June 23, 2024 submerged in the estate. The development led to the declaration of the estate as a “disaster zone” by the Permanent Secretary of the FCTA, Mr Olusade Adesola on June 27.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court sitting in Jikwoyi in 2023 restrained the Federal Government from going ahead with the plan to demolish the estate which was said to be a natural passageway of flood.
