FG Spending ‘Too Much’ On Operation Delta Safe, Senator Enang
Senator Ita Enang, Senior Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta Affairs has said the federal government was spending a lot of money on ‘Operation Delta Safe’.

Operation Delta Safe is a joint task force made up of the Army, the Police, the Navy, among others. The task force protects oil and gas infrastructure, prevents crude oil theft, sea robbery, pipeline vandalism and other forms of criminalities in the Niger Delta region.
Enang said the funds spent on the taskforce could be used to support modular refineries in the country, which would in turn give valuation strength to the Nigerian currency and protect the environment.
Speaking as a guest on FRCN on Wednesday, he also said that pollution of water resources, as well as other environmental issues will be a thing of the past, if modular refineries are well funded and regulated.

The presidential aide regretted that major refineries in the country are not working.
“About three modular refineries are working in Nigeria. But almost all of them are not refining petrol. The components for petrol production are being installed. By the time Port Harcourt refinery, Warri and Kaduna are fully functional, it will be a big win for Nigeria.
“Nigerian students from the Petroleum Training Institute, Efurum are the ones fabricating the tools for the refinery. From our findings, they only refine kerosene and diesel as petroleum production panels are being installed.
“Bitumen and other finished products are not being added. The modular refineries throw away the other parts as waste. This should not be so.
“What we’re proposing at the big pack is that people would be able to refine what they can without throwing the remaining components away. It is about making provisions to accommodate the other part that can’t be reached,” he said.

Enang further said: “We will not have to use Dollar to purchase the Petroleum at whatever cost. When you have so much to import with foreign exchange, the naira will continue to take the bitting.
“Many elements will be eliminated if modular refineries are made fully functional.
“The three arms of government (federal, state and local) can come together to contribute resources in order to make these modular refineries work.
“If we refine in Nigeria, we will not buy the crude in Dollars”, he concluded.
