Fake Soldier Arrested Over Alleged Phone Snatching In Plateau
Troops of Sector 1, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have arrested a suspected fake soldier, identified as Salim Idris, for allegedly impersonating military personnel, snatching mobile phones and causing public disturbance in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The suspect was arrested at about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Filin Sukuwa following intelligence reports about his alleged criminal activities in the area.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Oteh, confirmed the arrest, stating that troops tracked down the suspect and apprehended him while he was wearing military camouflage.
According to the military, preliminary interrogation revealed that Idris was allegedly involved in several criminal activities, including phone snatching, public disturbance and impersonation of security personnel.
He has since been taken into military custody for further investigation and profiling to determine the extent of his alleged involvement and the appropriate legal action.
Residents of Filin Sukuwa reportedly commended the troops for their swift response, expressing concern over the activities of individuals allegedly impersonating security personnel in the area.
Security agencies have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or military formation. Members of the public were also advised to verify the identities of individuals claiming to be security operatives before cooperating with them.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by Operation Enduring Peace to tackle criminal activities and the impersonation of security personnel in Plateau State.
In April, troops arrested two suspects allegedly posing as military personnel during an operation in Dutse Uku, Jos North, following reports of sporadic gunfire and arson in the community.
Military authorities have warned that criminals sometimes use military-style uniforms to carry out unlawful activities and damage the reputation of the Armed Forces.
They urged residents to report individuals wearing military uniforms without proper authorisation or engaging in suspicious activities.
The latest arrest is expected to reassure residents of Filin Sukuwa and neighbouring communities as security agencies intensify efforts to tackle criminal activities in the area.
