‘If Buhari, a Retired General, Could Not End Insecurity, What Do You Expect of Tinubu?’ – Yari

The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has defended President Bola Tinubu over the country’s persistent security challenges, arguing that the President should not be blamed solely for the situation.
Yari made the remarks on Monday during a visit to Kebbi State, where he met with Governor Nasir Idris, traditional rulers and other APC leaders in Birnin Kebbi.
He argued that former President Muhammadu Buhari, a retired Army General, also struggled to completely eliminate insecurity during his eight-year administration.
According to Yari, Tinubu should not be expected to achieve what a former military general could not accomplish entirely, although he maintained that the current President was making efforts to address the situation.
“If a retired general did his best but could not completely tackle insecurity, what do you expect of President Tinubu, who is not a general? Nevertheless, the President has done his utmost best to address the security challenges confronting the country,” he said.
The APC chieftain also commended Governor Idris and other party leaders in Kebbi for their efforts to mobilise support for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He praised the traditional rulers for coming together to receive the presidential campaign council delegation, describing their unity as an indication of their commitment to the party.
“We are leading the campaign for the President’s re-election and other candidates of our party. We appreciate you for bringing the emirs together under one umbrella at the Emir of Gwandu’s palace.
“We recognise what you are doing as governors and your contributions towards ensuring victory for our party in 2027,” Yari said.
He added that the campaign council would work with individuals and groups committed to Tinubu’s re-election, irrespective of their positions, to achieve the APC’s political objectives.
Yari expressed confidence in the party’s chances in Kebbi, citing the reception and support he witnessed during the visit.
On the economy, the former governor acknowledged the hardship facing Nigerians but argued that economic challenges were not peculiar to the country.
He claimed that inflation had declined and fertiliser prices had reduced, while noting that the Federal Government was implementing measures, including cash transfers to vulnerable households, to ease the burden on citizens.
Yari also urged Nigerians to reflect on their relationship with God, stressing that addressing insecurity required collective responsibility alongside government efforts.
He further cited the challenges faced by countries such as the United States and Saudi Arabia, arguing that governments around the world continued to grapple with national concerns.
The APC chieftain urged Nigerians to recognise the efforts of the Tinubu administration and support its development agenda.
In his remarks, Governor Idris welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the gathering of APC leaders and traditional rulers at the Emir of Gwandu’s palace.
He said Kebbi State had benefited from federal government projects under Tinubu’s administration, adding that the initiatives had strengthened the state’s support for the President.
Idris also mentioned prominent APC figures from the state, including Senator Atiku Bagudu, Senator Adamu Aliero and Ambassador Saidu Dakingari, as part of the party’s political strength in Kebbi.
“We have no reason not to support the President. We have prominent leaders such as Sen. Atiku Bagudu, Sen. Adamu Aliero and Amb. Saidu Dakingari.
“You have seen the people of Kebbi and their overwhelming support. We are for the APC and we are for President Tinubu,” the governor said.
He expressed confidence that Kebbi would remain supportive of the APC as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
