Nigerian Govt Goes Spiritual Over Incessant Destruction Of Electricity Towers By Boko Haram, Engages Imams To Offer Prayers, Sacrifice
The Yobe State government in Northeast Nigeria has organised prayer sessions against the incessant destruction of electricity towers in some parts of the state by Boko Haram terrorists.
It was gathered that the terrorists had been targeting the towers which connected Yobe and Borno states to the national grid in recent times.
The towers are part of the Jos – Gombe grid serving Borno and Yobe states with electricity.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, the state governor, Mai Mala Buni led a crowd of Muslim clerics to recite the Holy Quran and pray to God to punish the insurgents who destroyed the towers on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, after his government had repaired 330 KVA towers that were destroyed by insurgents near Kasaisa village in the Gujba LGA of the state.
It should be noted that the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) recently revealed that the terrorists first destroyed the towers in December 2023 and then again in February 2024, all of which were rebuilt by the Yobe State government.
After the recitation of the Holy Quran by Muslim clerics and students, cows were also sacrificed for Allah to expose and punish the terrorists for destroying the electricity towers in the state.
“The prayer session was for Allah to expose and punish the criminals, their sponsors, their supporters, those who helped them with the tools used in the destruction of the towers, their transporters to the scene of the crime, whoever knows but refuses to expose them; buyers of the vandalized tower parts, and transformers thieves,” Zagazola added.
In December 2023, SaharaReporters reported how the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists destroyed another 330KVA high-tension transmission line along Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway.
The explosion also killed one official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), according to witnesses.
Makama said the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, December 28, 2023, at about 0700hours between Yanayakiri-Garin Kuturu in the Jakana general area.
