Sowore Accuses Tinubu of Possible Ebola Exploitation Ahead of 2027 Elections

Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, has accused President Bola Tinubu of potentially exploiting Nigeria’s reported Ebola case to suppress voter turnout.
Sowore, in a statement titled “The Ebola Disease: Why Nigerians Must Not Panic But Must Ask Political Questions,” urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against attempts to use a public health emergency to restrict democratic participation.
He also questioned Nigeria’s disease surveillance system and communication with Ugandan authorities following the confirmation of a Bundibugyo virus disease case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The activist criticised the appointment of Femi Gbajabiamila to chair the Presidential Task Force on Ebola Preparedness, arguing that qualified medical experts should play a central role in managing the response.
Sowore called for transparency, effective contact tracing and a science-driven approach to containing the disease, insisting that public health emergencies must not be used to undermine civil liberties.
He urged Nigerians not to panic but to demand accountability from the government.
