BREAKING: FG Identifies More Suspected Ebola Cases, Tracks 53 Contacts

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two additional suspected cases of Ebola virus disease and 53 primary contacts as part of efforts to contain the potential spread of the disease.

The Director-General of the NCDC, Jide Idris, disclosed this on Sunday during a press briefing in Abuja.
According to Idris, the agency has established isolation and quarantine facilities to support its response to the suspected cases.
“We have established two additional suspected cases and 53 primary contact links. They are primary contacts. We have an isolation centre and a quarantine centre,” he said.
He explained that about 12 public and private laboratories were available to conduct Ebola tests, adding that the NCDC had strengthened its laboratory capacity to ensure suspected cases were promptly investigated.
Idris said the agency was maintaining heightened surveillance and improving its preparedness to prevent further transmission of the disease.
He also called on public and private healthcare facilities nationwide to strengthen screening, triage and infection prevention measures. Healthcare workers, he added, must be provided with adequate personal protective equipment to reduce the risk of infection.
The NCDC said its public health teams were tracing and monitoring individuals who might have been exposed to the confirmed case for 21 days after their last possible exposure.
Idris urged Nigerians contacted by health officials to cooperate fully with contact-tracing teams and provide accurate information about their movements, contacts and any symptoms they might experience.
