Troops, DSS Arrest Suspected Kidnapper During Sting Operation, Recover ₦200,000 Ransom

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered ₦200,000 allegedly demanded as ransom from a female victim.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation conducted on October 29, 2026, after DSS operatives alerted the troops to an alleged threat involving an adult female resident.

The suspect, identified as Mukaila Iliyasu, reportedly demanded ₦200,000 from the woman and threatened to abduct her if she failed to pay the money.

Acting on the intelligence, troops and DSS operatives immediately coordinated an anti-kidnapping operation to apprehend the suspect.

During the operation, a soldier, who disguised himself as part of the sting operation, delivered the demanded money to the suspect and successfully facilitated his arrest while he was receiving the alleged ransom.

The suspect was subsequently handed over to the DSS for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commending the troops and DSS operatives, the Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE and General Officer Commanding 5 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Moses Kolo Gara, praised their professionalism, gallantry and effective inter-agency collaboration.

He urged the security personnel to sustain intelligence sharing and operational cooperation to tackle kidnapping and other security threats within the Joint Operations Area.

₦200,000 Ransom: Nigerian Troops, DSS Nab Suspected Kidnapper in Disguise Operation

Security operatives have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Mukaila Iliyasu, during a joint operation by troops of Sector 2, Operation WHIRL STROKE, and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The operation, which took place on October 29, 2026, led to the recovery of ₦200,000 allegedly demanded from a female resident as ransom.

According to a military statement, the operation was launched after DSS operatives received information that the suspect had threatened to abduct the woman if she failed to pay the demanded ₦200,000.

Following the report, troops and DSS personnel launched an intelligence-driven operation to track down and arrest the suspect.

In a carefully coordinated sting operation, a soldier went undercover and posed as someone delivering the ransom money to the suspect.

The plan succeeded as the suspect was apprehended while collecting the ₦200,000.

He was later handed over to the DSS for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE and General Officer Commanding 5 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Moses Kolo Gara, commended the troops and DSS operatives for their gallantry, professionalism and successful collaboration.

Gara charged them to maintain the existing intelligence-sharing mechanism and strengthen operational synergy to rid the Joint Operations Area of kidnapping and other criminal activities.
