Nigerian Army Finally Breaks Silence On Alleged Coup Plot

    Coup Plot

The Nigerian Army and the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, have dismissed a report by SaharaReporters on alleged coup plot in the country.

It was reported Sunday that the Presidential Guards Brigade has been put on high alert following unusual movements, leading to suspicions of a coup plot in Nigeria.

The online newspaper also said that the suspicions prompted emergency meetings involving the Commander of the Presidential Guards Brigade, Col. Adebisi Onasanya, President Bola Tinubu and the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

But reacting to the report on its verified X handle on Sunday night, the Nigerian Army described it as fake news.

Also, the Defence Headquarters also took to its X handle and tagged the story as “Fake News”.

As at the time of filling this story, both the army authorities and the Defence Headquarters are yet to issue official statement on the report.

It would be recalled that last week, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, warned people calling for a coup over the current economic hardship in Nigeria to desist from such
